Teaching the book of Esther with the 4 main characters with a craft is always the easiest way to remember a story. And what better way to celebrate this brave queen than with a crown craft?

Working in kids’ ministry with kids from 1st grade through 4th grade, I’ve learned that some crafts need to be adapted for our older kids.

Here’s a simple story script you can use to explain Esther 1-10 in a simple and easy-to-remember way for kids:

A long time ago, in a place called Persia, there lived a young woman named Esther. She was kind, brave, and beautiful. Esther lived with her uncle Mordecai, who loved her very much and took care of her like his own daughter.

One day, the king of Persia was looking for a new queen. When he met Esther, he liked her kindness and gentle heart, and he chose her to be his new queen! Esther became Queen Esther, but she kept a secret — she was Jewish, one of God’s people.

Esther’s uncle Mordecai worked near the king’s palace. One day, Mordecai heard that a mean man named Haman wanted to hurt all the Jewish people. Mordecai sent a message to Esther and said,
“You must be brave and talk to the king! Maybe God made you queen for this very reason — to help your people!”

The king was shocked and angry! He didn’t want anyone to hurt Queen Esther or her people. Because Esther was brave and spoke up, the king stopped Haman’s plan and saved the Jewish people!

From that day on, the Jewish people celebrated Esther’s bravery. They remembered that God had a special plan for her life.

Three lessons kids can learn from the story of Esther include:

  • God can use you to do great things.
  • Being brave and doing what’s right is important.

  • We can trust God even when we’re scared.

The Bible verse on the crown is Esther 4:14- “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
