We’ve created a charming craft project to engage children in a new Thanksgiving tradition: the Thankful Acorn.
This delightful DIY activity not only encourages kids to express their gratitude but also adds a touch of creativity and warmth to your Thanksgiving decorations.
In this popsicle stick craft, children can write down the names of people, experiences, or things they are thankful for behind each popsicle stick, turning a simple acorn into a heartfelt keepsake.
Follow these instructions to guide your kids through making this special Thanksgiving craft.
Materials Needed to Make The Thankful Acorn
- Popsicle sticks/ Craft sticks
- Wooden beads
- White cardstock
- Brown yarn
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Black and brown markers
- Brown construction paper/card stock
- Template (optional)
How to Make This Easy Thankful Thanksgiving Craft
- Assemble the Base:
- Arrange popsicle sticks in a triangular shape and secure them with glue, adding an extra stick or two (in the middle, or one near the top and the other near the bottom) at the back for support.

- Create The Acorn Cap:
- Cut and trace the acorn cap template (or freehand draw your own) onto brown paper, and draw “u”s on the cap (as shown in the picture) with the brown marker.

- Add Eyes:
- Create eyes on white cardstock, shading the inner part with a marker, and attach them below the acorn cap. (You could also use wiggly eyes instead.)
- Draw a smile with a brown pen.
- Attach Arms and Legs:
- Cut two yarn strips, ensuring they are different lengths. Make the arms slightly longer than the legs.
- Attach wooden beads to the ends of the yarn, ensuring you knot the ends so the beads don’t slip off, and hot glue them to the back of each respective popsicle stick. (See picture)

- Complete Your Popsicle Stick Acorn:
- Attach an additional set of popsicle sticks onto the extra base support popsicle sticks to write the names of the people your child is grateful for.
