Introduce the story of Joseph with this free printable Joseph Coat of Many Colors Craft. Kids will enjoy coloring and assembling this simple yet sweet Bible craft.

The story of Joseph begins in Genesis 37 and continues all the way to the end of Genesis 50.

Joseph’s life is a testament of faith, hope in adversity, and God’s faithfulness from start to finish.

While there are many stand-alone stories and lessons to be taught from these chapters, the story of Israel’s love for his son and God’s revelation through dreams, in Genesis 37, is one commonly taught in children’s church.

Joseph Coat of Many Colors Craft

Genesis 37:3 says, “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors.”(NKJV translation)

In other translations, it says an “ornate robe”, “multi-colored tunic”, “brightly colored coat”, “a coat of many colors”.

Hence this easy Bible craft.

I’ve also included a Bible verse for kids to memorize, from Genesis 50:20-

“You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people.”

To make this craft, you will need:

The free “Joseph Coat of Many Colors Craft” template
White multi-purpose/computer paper
A pair of scissors
A paper cutter if doing large print runs
A gluestick
Jumbo craft sticks
Colors (crayons, markers, or color pencils)

How to make Joseph and his Colorful Coat!

Ask kids to color Joseph and his coat of many colors. They may also color in the memory verse.
After coloring the images, ask kids to cut around the outline of Joseph and the robe/coat, ensuring the tabs on the robe/coat are not cut off.
Also have them cut the memory verse from Genesis 50:20, as this will be glued to the craft stick once done.
Once done, glue Joseph to the craft stick, ensuring the craft stick is not glued to his head. The tip of the craft stick should be right below his neck, to allow the robe to be slipped over the back.
Now carefully make a small slit on either side with your scissors to separate Joseph’s hair from his shoulders. (This is done to allow the robe to rest on the shoulders.)
Glue the memory verse onto the craft stick, as shown in the picture below.
Now read Genesis 37:1-4, and when you reach verse 3, slip the colorful coat onto Joseph, ensuring the tabs are folded over to ensure the robe doesn’t slip off.

And there you have it- Joseph and his colorful tunic!
