A few days ago my son woke up with a sore throat. He’s not a fan of warm water and salt gargling so I had to think of another way to soothe his throat besides downing warm liquids. I decided to brew an age-old remedy that has worked great on my throat. All the ingredients are 100% natural and 100% safe for a child to consume. The spice aspect takes some getting used to but when you mix the concoction with lemon juice and honey, it really doesn’t taste all that bad.

- 2 inch fresh ginger
- 2 inch cinnamon bark
- 5-6 peppercorns
- 4 cloves
- 2 cups water
- Juice from 1 lemon
- Honey- to sweeten as per taste
- In a pan, pour the water and boil the ginger, cinnamon, peppercorns and cloves on a low flame for 15-20 minutes. {If you can grind all the ingredients, (minus the water)the juice from the ginger, cloves and pepper will mix better.}
- The color of the water should darken and the water should reduce to about 1 cup.
- Set aside and once cool, squeeze a lemon, take a tsp of the juice, mix with a tsp of honey and a tbsp of the concoction. Have this mixture at least every 3-4 hours for 1-2 days and see the difference! (You can also dilute the concoction with water and serve it with lemon juice and honey like a brewed tea.)
Give my homemade remedy for a sore throat a try. Odds are you will be stocking up on these ingredients once you do.
