When our friends over at Fox Home Entertainment asked if we were interested in hosting a fun Kung Fu Panda Party to celebrate the upcoming release of Kung Fu Panda 3 in theaters at the end of this month and the dvd re-releases of Kung Fu Panda and Kung Fu Panda 2, we jumped at the opportunity.
Kung Fu Panda Party Ideas {A Chinese Fried Rice Recipe and MORE!}
Since the kids wanted to do a Kung Fu Panda marathon with both movies, we decided to kick it all off with a Po inspired lunch that included my easy Chinese Fried Rice.
You can choose to make this a simple egg fried rice, chicken fried rice, veggie fried rice or mixed. I made a mixed fried rice because I had some leftover pepper beef in the fridge that got added to the mix!
- 3 cups of pre-cooked jasmine rice.
- 2 cups of raw chicken /beef / a mix of both-cut into small nuggets or strips
- 4 eggs
- 1 red onion -thinly sliced
- 1 bunch spring onion- cut fine
- 2 cups raw veggies- I used a mix of carrots peas, spinach (I know not something you will find in Chinese fried rice dishes but in my house yes!) and green bell peppers-chop fine/into small pieces
- 2 tbsps organic non GMO soy sauce
- Pepper- 2 tbsps or more based on taste preference.
- Salt-to flavor and taste
- Sesame seed oil- 2 to 3 tbsps
-
In a large wok or pan, heat the oil for 2-3 minutes and then throw in the sliced onions.
-
Saute for 2-3 minutes and then add the soy sauce, chicken and/or beef nuggets.
-
Flavor the poultry and/or meat with 1 tbsp of pepper and salt.
-
Cook till done. (I like making sure I've cooked this through properly so leave it cooking for about 10-12 mins, on a medium flame.)
-
In a separate pan, scramble the 4 eggs and season with pepper + salt and set aside.
-
Once the chicken and/or beef is cooked through, throw in the veggies and spring onions. Add to this the remaining pepper and season this with salt.
-
Saute and cook this mix on a medium-high flame for 5 minutes. (The veggies need to be lightly cooked and crunchy. Don't cook them all the way through.)
-
Add in the scrambled eggs and rice.
-
Gently mix all the contents in the wok well and set aside till hungry tummies at the dinner table are ready for some delicious mixed fried rice.
