What NOT to do while washing your car

Running your car through the car wash can be quite expensive in the long run. You can actually do a better job of manually cleaning your car at home and save money as well. Plus it’s always a fun family activity when the kids get involved.

What NOT to do while washing your car

While it’s much more economical to wash your car every week, or alternate week, you could actually do your car more damage if you aren’t careful to avoid doing a few commonly overlooked things. While washing your car, do NOT…

1. Use a kitchen scrub brush. It will scratch your car’s paint job. And while many people use sponges, a wash mitt is the best recommended option.

2. Wash your car right after a long road trip. Wait till the car cools down and preferably in a cooler part of the day so that the water and soap solution does not evaporate quickly and leave streaks, making you repeat the washing process again.

3. Use the soap solution on the car until you’ve washed down the car with plain water first.
