How to revamp your house on a budget

First off, have a good clear out!

Sometimes, a good clear out is all it takes to improve your living space, so why not give your premises a spring clean? Simply throw away anything you don’t need, donate unwanted clothes, toys and other products to a nearby charity shop or sell your belongings online. This will free up some much-needed space and might even earn you a bob or two in the process.

Clean, clean, clean

It’s amazing what a touch of polish, a squirt of window cleaner and a good old hoover can do! Dust, dirt and general grime can build up over time, so make sure everything is spic-and-span. Wash the walls from top to bottom, clean the skirting boards, mop the floors and suck up anything nasty from underneath the sofa. If you’re short of time, tackle one room at a time and leave it gleaming before moving onto another part of the house.

Redecorate

If your home is looking a little worse for wear, a fresh lick of paint could be just what it needs. To keep costs down, stick to one basic color and buy the products you need from a builders’ merchant as prices are often lower. Whites, creams, yellows and peaches will give your house a fresh, spring feel but if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous, there are plenty of bright shades available. You could always learn how to stencil a wall pattern for something a bit different and make the most of tester pots for a dash of color.

Clean your carpets

Carpets look great, but only when they’re clean, clear and stain-free. If yours are looking a little shabby, it might be time to hire a cleaning machine or call in the professionals. The latter might be a bit more costly, but it could be cheaper than buying new carpets altogether. Most stains can be removed with a little persistence, but if they are refusing to budge, a well-placed mat, plant or table could keep them hidden. If you do want to treat yourself to new furnishings, pay for them with cash or use low rate credit cards to keep your borrowing costs down.

Spring is a great time to carry out some home maintenance, so why not get your premises in order before the warmer months hit?
