Save Your Sanity This Holiday Season With These Tips

Once November comes up on the wall calendar, many families turn their focus to the holidays. While you don’t have to start decorating your house right on November 1st, you can start the preparations. Plan out exactly what you will need this year to decorate your house. If you need a new Christmas tree, or icicle lights for the exterior of your house, now is the time to get them. Planning early allows you to go shopping early, beating the rush of shoppers who are looking to get their supplies at the last minute.

When you have your supplies, plan a family day where everyone in the house pitches in to help with the decorating. Not only will this allow you to get your house ready in record time, you will also be spending quality time with your family. If everyone has a job to complete, the sense of pride and ownership will ensure that your house looks great.

The holiday season also means that it’s time for gifts. A great way to get ahead is to start shopping well beforehand. Stores like TOYS R US often get their holiday inventory available ahead of time. It doesn’t hurt to have your little ones make a list for Santa early, so you can get certain items well before they sell out.

This can also be a great time to declutter your space. Determine which toys can be donated to charity to make way for the new ones. Your kids stay happy, and you’re both contributing to those less fortunate.

While the holiday season can be stressful, a little advance planning will go a long way to alleviating that stress. You may be busy planning, but remember that this is a season for family and friendship. Plan some time for yourself if you have to, and you’ll handle the holidays with poise and grace.
