Counting my blessings…

This afternoon while the children nap, I sit in the living room and quietly reflect.

I think of the various phone calls and emails we’ve received from loved ones and friends requesting prayer for pressing needs in their lives. Needs that make my needs seem so trivial in comparison.

I know God has used these prayer requests to remind me that there is so much I have to be thankful for. So much that I generally take for granted.

So this afternoon as I sit, I count my blessings, thanking God that …

My children are healthy, have all ten fingers and toes and have an infectious joy that lights up the lives of those who know them.

I’m blessed with a husband who loves me for who I am, supports my dreams and is, to put it simply,  my best friend.

We have a roof over our heads and a warm place filled with love that we can call home.

Our family can eat three meals every day and not wonder where the next meal will come from.

Little things make us happy and the luxuries of life are an exciting bonus when they come across our path but even minus the same, we’re still content.

In every uncertainty we have an assurance of peace because we know God holds our future safely in His Hands.

I know a one hour nap session will not even cover a tip of the “Blessings Iceberg” in my life but it’s enough to put a lot into perspective and remind me that God’s Love surrounds me.

And you know what?…

That’s more than enough.

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

  1. Beautifully written. Thanks for the reminder about blessings we tend to overlook.

  2. Those sounds like wonderful blessings to count too. Thanks for the reminder of my own, and for your love of others to keep them in mind because it’s only human when even trivial needs can seem really huge sometimes.

  3. That’s a beautiful post! A reminder that we all need to take time to be silent and to listen to God.

  4. We all need to reflect more and count our blessings. In a day when people try so hard to accomplish and find “things” to make them happy, more than not it is the small things (kids included;) that fill our hearts with love lives with wonder!

  5. Great post! Nicely said. I know we are so fortunate to even be alive and well 😉 BTW your header always makes me smile!

  6. It is always so important to be thankful for what we have, but isn’t it amazing how sometimes we are so quick to forget. Loved this post!
