At times when God speaks, it’s a still small voice…sometimes even a whisper. And it’s at times like these that He invites us to be still and know that He is God (Psalms 46:10).

With Christ in the Vessel ( Day 27)

.

Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

(Mark 4: 36-39)

.

The passage for devotion today is one that has been talked about, preached about and discussed by many.

Each time I read it I see Christ in the boat with his disciples as a parallel to Christ’s place of prominence in our lives.

In the verses we read that Christ was asleep in the stern of the boat, i.e. the rear end of the boat, when a storm picks up around. The disciples panic and in that split second they forget who they’re traveling with and rush to Jesus and ask why He doesn’t care about their lives, their well being, their future.

Isn’t that like us?

Sometimes when we go through a rough road bump along life’s course and have to face the wrath of that trial’s storm, we run panicked to God screaming “Why me?” ” Don’t you care that I’m hurting?”

We forget that He is there with us.

We forget that He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

We forget that He has promised when we go through the trials in life they will not crush us completely.

We forget to trust Him and place Him foremost in our lives…in the bow of the boat.

The next time something comes along and smacks you in the face, turn first to the LORD and tell Him that you give it all to Him.

Trust and believe that He is able to bring you through the storm.

You will see that God will fill you with an unexplainable peace and just like Jesus slept through the storm, you will be able to sail right through it without  fear, frustration and lack of hope because you know that when God sees it fitting, He will stand up and speak to that storm and command it to be still.

Be encouraged in this, that with Christ in your Vessel, you CAN smile at any storm!

I pray that you will find comfort, encouragement and hope as you lean close to listen to God’s Whisper for your situation today.

Be blessed!
