Several weeks ago, when Dottie heard the announcements in church, she asked if we could take her to Compassion International’s  Time Of My Life Tour concert featuring The Afters, Chris August, Unspoken and Among The Thirsty.

Dottie has loved praise and worship songs since she was in my womb. While pregnant, I continued to help lead praise and worship back in our home church and each time the music would play, my firstborn would move around in the womb. She has grown up glued to our local Christian radio station so her request was one Hubs and I agreed we had to fulfil.

A few days before the concert I was blessed with a media pass and guest pass to the concert but wanting Dottie to enjoy the concert from close quarters, we decided to splurge a little and upgraded to VIP tickets.

Our VIP passes allowed us to get into the hall a little over an hour before the actual concert started, pick our seats and participate in a press conference styled Meet and Greet session where VIP pass holders could ask the artists questions. (The Q&A session was ok, a little rushed and the hall was dark so we couldn’t really see who was answering the questions. The main plus with our passes was to find seats close to the stage!)

The concert started right on schedule with Among The Thirsty opening up with “Do It For You”.

Right before they sang “Who You Say I Am”, lead vocalist Ryan Daniel shared from Ephesians 2:10. Loved the reminder that we’re God’s Masterpieces and not our accomplishments or failures. (If you haven’t heard this song, look for it on youtube.)

After singing their third song, Unspoken walked on and sang one of our favorites “Start A Fire”.

Their line up included “Who You Are” and the movie War Room’s signatory “Good Fight”

Dottie loved the on stage interaction and dialog between Chad Mattson, Michael Gomez and Ariel Munoz. The three (Michael especially!) gave us so much to laugh about (Seriously Chad, “Spanish?!!”) and I don’t think we’ll ever be able to watch the Little Mermaid without thinking of Unspoken’s own gentle giant.

Before we broke for intermission, Michael shared his Compassion International child sponsorship story, reminding us of the three children we’ve sponsored. I can’t wait for the day we get to meet them in person. If you’ve had it on your heart to make a difference in the life of one person, would you consider sponsoring a child?

Chris August began the latter half of the concert singing the old hymn “Tis So Sweet”, following that with the much loved “Center Of It” and the beautiful reminder “He’s Still Here”. (Unspoken accompanied him on the keyboard, strings and percussion through his segment.)

He shared the story of his battle with depression and how God alone was the permanent relief from it all. To remind him of the journey and encourage others going through the same, he wrote the next song he sang, “Muddy Waters”. The Afters opened out the final quarter of the evening with some more of our favorites, “Every Good Thing” and “Lift Me Up”. I loved that they had the lyrics to the songs they sang on screen, encouraging all of us to sing along.

Half way through one of the songs, Joshua Havens jumped into the audience and climbed through rows to sing amidst the crowd. Being Dottie’s first concert ever, this was quite a surprise for her especially since he chose to go through a path he made for himself right next to where we were sitting. So that was a fun highlight!

A little over two hours long, the concert was packed with wonderful praise and worship songs, inspirational testimonies and the sharing of God’s Word in nuggets. There were even a good number of laughs thrown in. (Nowhere else will you hear Chris August sing the Little Mermaid song, in honor of poor Ariel!)

I’m sure the guys were tired at the end of it all but at 10.15 in the night, they sat joyfully at the tables, signing autographs, cracking jokes and conversing with their fans.

I’m so glad I got to take Dottie and make special memories with her. I pray she will look back upon the night with joy in her heart and that the songs sung will leap up in her spirit over the passing days.

If the Time Of My Life tour is coming to a place near you, don’t wait back on getting your tickets. I promise you won’t regret the investment and will be blessed.
