While I love my DSLR, if you’re starting up on the hobby, a great, compact point and shoot is what you will want to gift.: a camera that is easy to use and produces the quality you want in photographs, like the KODAK PIXPRO AZ421.

This KODAK PIXPRO camera is available in two colors, black or white and part of the Astro Zoom collection. The collection’s name is hint enough that this is one camera that has a fantastic zoom capability, a 42x optical zoom.

We tested it out on our recent trip to San Antonio. The first photograph was taken from the balcony of our 5th floor hotel room, without the use of the zoom

and the second using the zoom to narrow in on the painting of the parrots on the wall.

All close-ups are 16 megapixels in quality and it’s important to spend some time getting to the camera, ensuring the image stabilization is checked “on” to ensure you get the best quality.

While on our trip, my 11 year old begged to try out the camera, capturing some great shots like this beautiful photograph of this gorgeous duck and

experimented with the sports mode to get a non-blurred photograph of one SeaWorld San Antonio’s Bay Of Play’s animated dancers.

The AZ421 has a blink/smile detection feature that captures live subjects at just the right moment

and a 24 mm wide angle lens to capture more of the subject’s/object’s surrounding in the photograph.

Overall each feature, except for the Beautify and Face options, has a quick photo processing speed. It also takes 720 pixel HD video if you’re looking to use this for videos too.

Battery-wise, the camera uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery.
