This simple Jesus Walks On Water craft uses a paper plate, the printable picture and a craft stick. Such a special way to remember the story!
In my earlier post sharing the 3 free “Jesus Walks On Water” coloring pages, I mentioned how Jesus walking on water is recorded in the Bible’s three gospels. But it’s only in the book of Matthew that Peter is also recorded walking on water.
I thought it appropriate to provide the option of creating this craft with Peter and Jesus or with Jesus alone.
The steps to create the craft would stay the same; the only difference would be the choice of the printable you will use with your child, Sunday School class, church group, or homeschool pod.
Materials Needed To Make One “Jesus Walks On Water” Craft
- Dessert-sized uncoated white paper plate
- Craft stick
- The printable of Jesus walking on water or Jesus and Peter walking on water. (Print this on white multi-purpose paper or white cardstock paper)
- Gluestick or tape
- A pair of scissors
- A box cutter
- Color pencils, crayons or markers to color the picture and the paper plate
Question- Can I use a coated white paper plate instead of an uncoated one? Or can I use another color?
I recommend using an uncoated white paper plate to make coloring on the plate easier and drawing fish on the plate, if so desired. If you would like to get a coated plate, I recommend picking a blue plate to represent the water.
Instead of drawing the fish, your child/children can use fish stickers.
How to Make the “Jesus Walks On Water” Craft
1. Cut the paper plate in half, creating hills (these will represent the waves) as you cut.
2. Using the box cutter, cut a slit in the middle of the plate, about 2-2.5 inches in length.
3. Have your child color the plate in blue, to represent the water, and if they would like, encourage them to fill the plate with pictures of fish they draw. (Stickers may also be used.)
4. Cut around one image your child would like to use, from the printable provided. Have them color the picture once done.
5. Glue or tape the picture to the top of the craft stick.
6. Now, carefully insert the craft stick into the slit created on the paper plate and lower the stick till the picture sits on the slit. Gently move the picture from one end of the slit to the other, to make “Jesus walk on the water.”
Such an easy craft, right?
This is a great craft to use for large Sunday School groups and Vacation Bible School too.
I created the craft and used it on a Sunday when we had 100+ elementary-aged kids in attendance.
To make things easier on our group leaders, we prepped the craft by cutting the plates in half and the printable images into squares using a paper cutter. This made cutting around the image easier for the kids.
