Inspiring you to “Give Back”

The world we’re living in is sadly dominated by a “Take” “Take” “Take” mentality and if we’re not careful we can get sucked into that cold, selfish, insensitive whirlwind of personal gratification. As parents, we need to be the example our child sees to emulate as he/she grows.

It really isn’t hard. Begin with tiny acts and slowly build them up as you get comfortable wearing the skin of a “Giver”.

Need some inspiration? Here are  two ways you can “Give Back” to the community you live in…

Donate to the Local Food Bank

When was the last time you cleaned out your pantry? I’m sure you will find a bunch of canned products you don’t plan to use.

Our pantry has a little corner of “won’t use” canned products and non perishables that we’ve raked in with some of the great “Meal-Deals” or sales promotions H-E-B runs. I’m not one to turn down a good deal just because the promotional product is something I won’t use. If I need to buy the other product coupled in the promotion, why not bring home the free product and give it to the local food bank? Atleast someone else will benefit by the same. The next time you go shopping look at the store’s sales circular with that mind-set and you will see how much you can take over to the food bank at the end of the month.

(And best of all, it won’t cost you a penny to do that considering all the products being donated were received free!)

Donate to the Local Homeless Shelter or the Salvation Army

3 days ago while we were driving to church, Hubby and I saw our neighbors kids walk up to their trash can and throw out 3 perfectly good blankets. I had half the mind of getting Hubby to stop the car, make the kids pull them out of the can and give them to us to drop off at the Salvation Army bin.

Each time you spring clean your home, don’t throw away things you don’t plan to use (blankets, clothes, toys, furniture, books et al) because there ARE people who stay in shelters who will be sincerely grateful to receive the same.

Don’t forget, winter is just a few months away.

If you notice, both these causes do not require the investment of any financial resources but just need a willing heart to give.

And by doing so, you will be setting an example for your child to follow, thereby shaping him/her to be a citizen tomorrow who can make an impact and a change to the community he/she lives in…

All because you gave.
