If you’re in the market for a new or pre-owned vehicle in the Cape May County, NJ area, visit the Kindle Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM dealership, our partners for this feature. You know the success of a smooth drive always lies with the reliability of the vehicle you own.

Cooler weather will be rolling our way soon and while many celebrate, car owners in places that get snowed up pretty quickly, don’t have the same reactions of joy.

How to get your car ready for colder weather

Did you know that your car requires a little extra attention to prepare it for the changing seasons as well?

Most people don’t realize this, and continue to hop in and drive around as usual. Spending a little extra time getting your car winter-ready, however, will save you lots of time and money in the long run.

Here are a few simple things you can do to prepare:

Check Tires and Change If Necessary:

Winter brings ice, so your tire traction is very important. Check the thread on your tires as well as the pressure. (Your local service dealership can help you with this. )Some tires aren’t made for icy conditions. Most regular tires aren’t made for extremely icy or snowy conditions. If you live in this type of climate, you should consider purchasing snow tires for the winter.

Check Antifreeze:

Having the correct amount of antifreeze in your radiator is important. It will keep your car engine from freezing during the cold winter months.

Check Your Oil:

The changing of seasons is a great time to check your oil. Cold weather causes oil to thicken, and oil that is too thick can negatively affect your engine’s performance. Checking the viscosity of your oil is key to keeping your car running smoothly.

Replace Your Wipers And Wiper Fluid:

Visibility is always important when driving, and even more so during bad weather. Be sure to replace wipers and wiper fluid so that you aren’t caught unable to see in your first winter storm.

Restock Your Winter Emergency Kit:

Every car owner should keep an emergency kit of first aid items in their vehicle. Your kit should contain all the items you might need, in case you are stranded for any reason. Winter time is a great time to restock these items!
