Research allows a child to gather information and facts about a topic they may have little or no awareness about.
It teaches children to comb through resources found online or through books and learn to choose important facts to feature.
Children will establish a stronger knowledge base about the topic they are researching.
This Animal Research Project Journal is a way to help introduce the world of research to a child, in the simplest way possible.
How this Animal Research Project Journal Incorporates Fun and Learning
Asking a child to research a topic, for example, “an animal that lives in the jungle”, can be overwhelming.
Where would one start?
How much information would one need to add to the research project?
With this engaging journal, children are asked to do three things, on each page:
- Draw the habitat the creature featured lives in.
- Color the habitat and creature. (Yet another plus- strengthening fine motor skills with drawing and coloring activities.)
- Research 5 facts about the featured creature. ( This allows the child to pick 5 one-sentence facts about the creature that stand out the most to them.)
The journal features 26 creatures, one for every letter in the alphabet and yes, I do have a creature for the letter X as well!

Best Way to Print and Use the Animal Research Project Journal?
I recommend printing off the inner pages on white multi-purpose paper and the cover pages (1st and last pages of the pdf file) on white cardstock paper.
You can file the papers in a binder or get them spiral bound.
Your child can choose to go through the journal in alphabetical order, or randomly pick the creature to research each day.
