My kids love to craft, so when Crayola sent us a Holiday Crafting Essentials gift pack that held Crayola Washable Markers, Crayola Colored Pencils, Crayola Glitter Glue, Crayola Model Magic and Crayola Slick Sticks, they were over the moon.
Wanting the kids to create something solely minus Mama’s help, I asked if they would like to design and make Christmas cards or Christmas Tree Ornaments.
Considering our tree this year was decorated by the kids, from start to finish, I should have known they would pick the latter.
Easy-to-make Crayola Model Magic Christmas tree ornaments
The wonderful thing about Model Magic is it works just like play putty/dough except it hardens when left out for a few hours.
This makes it a great pack to get kids to make a bunch of different things and not have to worry about the ease in doing the project.
While making Christmas Tree Ornaments, encourage your kids to get creative and mold any shapes and/or figures they would like seen as an ornament on the tree. (Remember the key to this project is to allow the kids to make anything they want. It does not have to be perfect!)
Once the shape/figure is molded, gently insert a looped, small, colored (preferably glittery) pipe cleaner into the head of the shape/figure.
Now wait for this to dry before hanging the ornament on the tree.
You can also grab some Crayola Glitter Glue to add some sparkle to the ornament.
The ornament, if delicate, may also be pressed onto a colored foam sheet, cut to size, and again decorated with Crayola Glitter Glue or Crayola Markers.
I know years from now, when we look back, these will be our most prized ornaments…
a reminder of our children’s labors of love, one pre-Christmas 2013 evening.
Easy-to-make Christmas Brooches
With older children, you can also make Christmas brooches.
All that’s needed is some Crayola Model Magic and safety pins.
Once the Christmas figure is molded, gently press a safety pin into the back of the figure and cover the ends with some Model Magic to hold in place.
Now just wait for the same to dry.
Once done, watch your child wear his/her Christmas brooch with pride!
I’m sure you can think of many more great things to make with the contents in the Crayola Holiday Crafting Essentials Pack and the Crayola Holiday Crafts Pinterest Board is also bursting with more inspiration.
One reader will win a Crayola Holiday Crafting Essentials gift pack that holds Crayola Washable Markers, Crayola Colored Pencils, Crayola Glitter Glue, Crayola Model Magic and Crayola Slick Sticks. (This won’t reach before Christmas but crafting is not time restricted, right?)
