My 4 year old loves to help in the kitchen. As soon as he hears the whirr of my stand mixer, I can bet he’ll be by my side in just a matter of a few seconds asking if he can help with whatever I’m making. If I’m chopping veggies, he’ll show up with a butter knife and ask if we can share a chopping board and chop alongside me.
I really hope his love for all things culinary carries on as he grows older. And one way I can fuel the love is by showing him how much fun kids have in the kitchen and how age limits noone when they have a culinary gift.
The kids on MasterChef Junior Season 3 are testament to that!
Between the ages of 8 and 13, the 19 competitors are culinary wise beyond their years and gosh, such a treat to watch.
MasterChef Junior gives the best junior home cooks in America the chance to showcase their culinary abilities and passion for food through a series of delicious challenges. Each episode, host and award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay is joined by restaurateur Joe Bastianich and acclaimed chef Graham Elliot on the MasterChef Junior judging panel. Season 3 returns Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 8/7c on FOX.
The premiere had me glued. These kids can make pasta from scratch, incorporate over 5 cooking techniques in one dish ( and no I don’t mean basic techniques!), plate food beautifully and deliver an unthinkable food masterpiece in less than an hour. WOW!
While I love watching MasterChef , MasterChef Junior has this alleviated level of sweetness to it that can’t be found while watching adults compete. The kids were rooting for each other, genuinely concerned when a competitor cut her finger and heartbroken when some of their friends had to leave in the end.
I love how Fox doesn’t forget these are kids we’re talking about. The premiere shows the kids running into the prestigious MasterChef kitchen (like only kids would), groan when Gordon Ramsay delays a countdown by throwing in a 1/2 while counting and set off on an apron hunt in the pantry to find the coveted MasterChef white aprons with their names on it.
Plus you will see Gordon Ramsay’s gentler side that really is very sweet. A side that’s not cut-throat but encouraging and willing to share from culinary vault of knowledge .
And yes, responding to my tweet totally made the day of the Premiere all the more memorable. Thank you Mr Ramsay!
Will you tune in next week to see who will move forward? We’ll be watching. The kids will be sipping hot chocolate with caramel and marshmallows in their MasterChef Junior mugs while Hubs and I will enjoy steaming mugs of cardamom chai. Psst! Have you tried vanilla white chocolate with hazelnut milk chocolate in a steaming mug of milk topped with marshmallows? Mmmmmmm!
Think the mug’s cute? How would you like to win not one but two of those mugs and more treats in a MasterChef Junior Season 3 Viewing Kit?
The team over at Fox will send a kit to one of my readers!
