My kids haven’t done anything life-saving but in my eyes they’re heroes when they do those little acts of love when they think Mama and Dada aren’t watching.

Like the time Dottie helped Little Man up the hay stack when she saw he was too small to clamber up that towering stack independently.

Or when Little Man spent several hours in the sun, without a peep, waiting patiently to cheer on Dottie when she participated in her first Inter-school Track Meet.

I’m also reminded of the time Little Man gently coaxed Baby Sister’s little fingers out of his hair without screaming as he knew she would get scared with a loud yelp.

Or just this past weekend when Dottie asked to help watch Baby Sister as I stood up to cheer Little Man as he shot off to score during the soccer match.  She put on my huge, floppy sun hat to ensure she provided a shade for her sister as well.

They thought Mama wasn’t watching but she was and thankfully, most often than not, I always have a camera or phone closeby that I can run and grab to capture the moment forever.

My sweet children teach me how to love selflessly, forgive quickly and laugh heartily.

They’re my Everyday Heroes. And no they don’t wear capes.

They’re ordinary kids with a heart to help. They’re not perfect, they make mistakes but they’re always quick to pick themselves up, learn and move forward…

just like Dusty, in Disney’s Planes Fire and Rescue.

  1. My mom is my hero. She is very sick, yet she carries on like nothing is wrong.

  2. I agree, everyday hero’s don’t need capes. I know a little girl, named Erin, that has the same skin disorder I do. She has skin erosions on her face and hands and those can be excruciating. She ALWAYS has a smile. She’s my little hero.

  3. There are so many heroes that touch our lives every day. It is important to recognize them and say thank you for all that they do. I have tried to teach my kids about being kind to everyone because you do not know what they are going threw. Sometimes a smile can change someones day.

  4. What sweet moments you caught your kids doing. I love seeing the real bonding moments between kids when no one is looking.

  5. What a beautiful post, I also want to see that movie. Sounds like a great one. I love the moments you captured, heroes do no wear capes … not all the time anyways!

  6. Can’t agree more! All the service people, firefighters, police, people who help the less fortunate–THOSE are today’s real heroes!

  10. Midge went and saw this already but none of us went – I cant wait to see it. I loved Cars – we’ve probably watched it a million times. I just know we will love this one just as much.

    1. It’s a sweet movie Lynsey. There are some great life lessons for all of us to learn from the same. (Yes, I’m that Mom who tries to look for a lesson we can learn from any movie we watch!)

  11. My kids are my heros! All 4 are adopted and came from horrible circumstances, but they have made huge progress and they work hard without giving up!

My oldest helps little kids any chance he gets – he used to volunteer in the special needs class at his old school!

The little things they do to help each other and others really pulls my heart strings! I also think my hubby is a hero. He’s dealt with a lot and overcome a lot and still trucks on!

    1. Jeanine that’s so wonderful.I’m sure he was a blessing to the kids in the class. MY Hubs is one of my adult heroes too.
