Christmas…
Just typing the word puts a warm feeling inside my heart.
A season symbolic of hope, celebration and joy.

But lets just stop for a moment and reflect…
Is Christmas really celebrated for what it truly stands for?
If you tear away the tinsel, the trappings, the presents and the lights, will it still feel like Christmas?
Have today’s commercial decorative glitz and “holiday” cheer stolen CHRIST out of Christmas?

Two years ago I remember sitting down with the 3-5 year olds in my Sunday School class and asking them what Christmas meant to them. Pat came the quick responses- “Presents!” “Sweets!” “Christmas Trees!” “Lights!” Yummy Food!”…everything BUT not a single mention of Jesus.
Celebrating a season minus the One for whom it was all initially put together to remember.
Ironic but true.

It’s time we re-direct our family’s festivities and focus this Christmas to make Christ the center of all our celebrations.
Why?
Simply because there is
NO other name more wonderful or worthy of that place of honor.
NO-ONE else who knows the beginning and end of all things concerning us
NO-ONE else who can say “There is NOTHING too hard for Me to do” and that “ALL things are possible through Me and in Me”
NO-ONE else who will stand by our side even when everyone else forsakes us
NO-ONE else who can flood our hearts with a peace that is truly out of this world.
NO-ONE else who would love us so much that He’d give up His life just to give us a way of hope and everlasting life.

I pray this CHRISTmas be one different from past years and that the Birth of our Messiah is remembered and celebrated with a fervent joy.
For into the hearts of both young and old has been born One whose Name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)…

.
And yes, He IS the reason we celebrate this season.

  1. I don’t think much of the Holiday Season is spent celebrating Jesus. I know that this year, I really took a step back and realized how much STUFF we had. It was our first year celebrating Thanksgiving ALONE and it was wonderful. We plan on doing the same for Christmas. Of course there are presents, but many of them I have been saving through the year to give to them.
    Thanks for this post. <3
