The first day of school, for my now 7 year old, was filled with excitement. She had a huge grin plastered on her face and skipped into her Pre-K 3 class. Earlier this week, I honestly hoped with all my heart it would be the same for my 3 year old. He wanted to go to school, he was excited to meet new friends, loved his new teachers…but he wanted me to go with him…and stay with him.
The first day of Pre-K 3 was not easy.
There were more than just a fair share of tears and all my husband and I could do was stand outside the class and pray. Eventually in 15 minutes he calmed down and had an awesome rest of the day.
Just the Saturday prior to school opening up, we took the kids to watch Disney Pixar Fillms’ latest movie Planes.
To say my little man enjoyed the movie would be an understatement considering he’s C.R.A.Z.Y. about planes and all things that move. The movie was also a great opportunity to reassure the kids that though the new school year may be a little scary, like Dusty Crophopper, they too could push through those fears. And with God’s help they’d soar through each day wonderfully.
Soaring to New Heights with Disney Planes
So on day 1, after spending an hour or so at Preschool making sure he was okay, I headed out to our closest Walmart SuperCenter to see if I could pick up a Dusty toy as a 1st day of school present.
What a treat to find that my Walmart had designated a segment for Disney Cars and Disney Planes toys!
The shelves had all the characters from Cars the Movie and more excitingly, most of the characters from Planes the movie. (The reason why I say most of the characters is because my daughter fell in love with the Indian plane Ishani. I knew she would have loved to say she had a plane as long as it was Ishani. Sadly, she wansn’t on the racks, nor was Rochelle, so I had to find an alternate 1st day of School prezzie.)
Looking at the variety of Dusty Planes toys on the shelves, I was, in a way, glad I was shopping alone. I could just picture our little Disney Planes Dusty fan wanting to pull off each package off the shelves to test, try and play with each plane out there!
After spending about half an hour picking one beautifully packaged plane after the other I finally settled on picking a Dusty Roller.
Perfect in size for a 3 year old, relatively accident-prone-free (I’m sorry I have a tiny phobia about die-cast toys around my very active 3 year old especially with his leaps of the couch with die-casts in his hand) and able to do a few stunts (wheelies included!), the Rollers Dusty was the toy!
Judging by his reaction I know I made the right choice.
I wonder if he will ask to have a Planes prezzie this Christmas. If so, I know exactly which one I will be picking!!
Has your child watched Disney Planes yet? Does he/she have a favorite character?
